The new US Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) successfully completed its first flight test at White Sands, New Mexico on 19 Jan. The missile used its imaging infrared terminal seeker to locate its target. The missile was launched at 15,000 feet and flew (by GPS guidance) through three waypoints. There will be seven more developmental tests and then ten operational tests before the weapon is declared operational.--Stephen V Cole
