: Poland plans to build about 240 wheeled armored personnel carriers (LAVs, Light Armored Vehicles)  under license. It is examining bids from three companies: Huta Stalowa (offering the Mowag Piranha), OBRUM (offering the Pandur-II), and WZM (offering the Finnish Armored Modular Vehicle). About half will be fitted with a two-man turret mounting a 25mm or 30mm cannon and two (or four) anti-tank missiles. The Army eventually wants to buy 1,000 vehicles with the turret and more for support roles. A separate competition for the turret includes Rheinmetall's E8 with the 30mm Mauser MK30F, OTObreda's HITFIST with a 25mm gun and two TOW missiles, and Delco with a choice of 25mm and 30mm guns.--Stephen V Cole
