General Ralph E Eberhart, head of Space Command, has warned that the US is still doing nothing to protect its satellites from attack or to develop means to attack enemy satellites. He noted that within a few years the US must have the ability to deliver a conventional warhead anywhere in the world within 90 minutes, which would require sending such a vehicle through space at least part of its trip to the target. Such a weapon could be launched from a bomber, or on an ICBM.--Stephen V Cole
