The coalition forces in Afghanistan believe that there are fewer than a thousand armed Taliban and al Qaeda fighting against American, NATO and Afghan government forces. Apparently, intelligence gathering is improving, as more raids are catching more Taliban and al Qaeda members. Years of efforts by American Special Forces troops are paying off as more tribes are willing to provide information, and other cooperation, in the battle against the al Qaeda foreigners and remaining Taliban followers.
