Pakistan has begun series production of the solid-fuel Shaheen-1 (Hatf-4) road-mobile missile, which has a range of 750 km and could carry a nuclear warhead. The Shaheen-2 (Hatf-7) is reportedly ready for testing. It has a range of 2,500 km and can carry a 1,000 kg warhead. India is reportedly deploying its Agni-2 (range 3,000 km) and claims it has all the technology it needs to build an intercontinental ballistic missile (i.e., one that could hit the United States). The Agni-3, with a range of 4,000 km, will reportedly be tested "sooner than expected" because the development program went very well.--Stephen V Cole
