In Kashmir, rebels threw grenades at the home of a senior government official, wounding five policemen. Other rebels attacked a police patrol, leaving one civilian bystander dead.

Militants in Pakistani Kashmir said that 20 of their members had crossed over into Indian Kashmir despite the Pakistani assurances that such crossings would stop. The Jamiat-ul-Mujahedin militant organization said that they, and other militant groups, control the border area. The Pakistani government will now be pressured to assert their authority on this border area.
