The conservatives continue to increase their attacks on reformers, and the reformist president will not get involved in the jailing of reformist members of parliament. Most of the people saw the parliament as a way to overcome the veto power the religious conservatives over every aspect of Iranian life. Now that the conservatives are using false charges and breaking the law to jail reformist legislators, many reformist leaders feel that civil war is the only alternative. Either that, or leave running the country to the minority (about 20 percent) religious conservatives.
