Equatorial Guinea sacked 20 army officers and 30 soldiers. The cashiered troops are thought to be supporters of General Gabriel Nse Obiang, who is hiding out in Cameroon. Nse Obiang, a former senior Equatorial Guinean Army commander, was accused of being involved in an arms sale scam. He is also accused of stealing $650,000 in money appropriated to run the Equatorial Guinean military academy. Dont dismiss this report as simply another corruption scandal in sub-Saharan Africa. Equatorial Guineas government may well suspect a coup is in the works.
