mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> Launching a major offensive, the army attacked in five different areas around Jaffna in an attempt to push LTTE rebels away from key roads and inhabited areas. For the last four months there had only been small scale attacks and combat patrols. The army used massive artillery and rocket fire in this attack against heavily defended rebel positions.
