In southern India, communist rebels (PWG, or People's War Group) admitted being responsible for an assassination attempt against the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh state. The PWG rebellion has been going on for three years, and has left at least 10,000 dead. Peace talks with PWG began last June, but have broken down because some PWG factions want to keep fighting.

Hundreds of Shiite mourners rioted in Karachi, Pakistan, while at the funeral for six Shiites who were shot down the previous day by Sunni militants.
